              The Science

Kicklighter Academy has taken pride in being the expert in the care and education of children with and without Autism and other developmental and physical disabilities for over 60 years.  Kicklighter Academy uses the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB).  Under the direction of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), our teachers and tutors are trained and monitored in the science and techniques of ABA. Children from as young as 3 months old are being assessed using the CDC Developmental Milestones Checklists, the Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ3), the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), and/or a School Readiness Checklist to identify and address any suspected delays as soon as possible.  Individualized ABA programs are developed and implemented for children who exhibit developmental delays.

In addition to our Academy, Kicklighter Resource Center offers services for adults with disabilities, including housing and support.  In addition, Mrs. Joyce Anthony has worked tirelessly to offer a unique bingo program.

Once a parent hears that their child is on the Autism Spectrum or has a developmental delay, they often feel like there is nowhere to turn.  Kicklighter Academy is their source for education, resources, and support.

When I first walked down the halls of Kicklighter Academy my daughter was 4 years old. I saw children saying “Good Morning” and I thought my child would never be able to communicate like that. After only 8 months, my daughter said her first word “Candy” and many more came from that. I still remember when I heard her say “Mommy” for the first time at 5 years old. I cannot thank the staff at Kicklighter Academy enough. Without their care and support I do not know where my daughter would be today.

I have a “typical” child and was leary about sending him to a school known for working with children with autism, but after hearing so many good things about the school I gave it a shot. Wow, was I surprised. When my son was 2 years old, he was naming his colors, counting, spelling and talking more than other children his age. I am so impressed with the teachers and staff. I think every parent should send their children to Kicklighter Academy if they want true education and not just a daycare.
